Scale-out SAN for high performance computing
The unique and growing challenges of High Performance Computing (HPC) and technical computing environments are a natural fit for the Coraid EtherDrive scale-out SAN architecture.
Massive throughput and capacity
EtherDrive delivers linear parallel scaling of throughput and capacity, with commodity economics ideal for large scale data collection.
- Massive throughput up to 1800 MB/sec
- Nearly 200,00 IOPs per shelf with flash storage
- Scale-out architecture, allowing capacity and performance to scale linearly with each additional storage appliance
- Automatic load balancing across multiple network connections for aggregated throughput and redundancy
Research organizations including Los Alamos National Laboratory, NASA, NOAA, USGS, and more than 120 universities and government agencies worldwide have deployed EtherDrive SAN storage in large-scale HPC projects including human genome research, energy research, and government security applications.
Coraid EtherDrive storage is ideal for high throughput environments where clusters of Windows, Linux, and/or Solaris servers require fast read and write access to large, shared pools of data. EtherDrive utilizes massively parallel Ethernet and Coraid CorOS™ distributed-storage operating system to deliver higher performance than Fibre Channel at up to 1800 MB/s of throughput.
EtherDrive scales to multiple petabytes with a flat Ethernet SAN topology and connectionless, massively parallel design. Deployment and configuration of EtherDrive arrays are simple; a user can configure and address new storage in under 60 seconds.
Coraid delivers a "one-tier-for-all" architecture that eliminates the tradeoffs of specialized storage arrays. The scale-out architecture and low-latency massively parallel 10 GbE connectivity makes Coraid storage the ideal vehicle for connecting all types of drives, including SATA, SAS & SSD. The same platform provides the lowest cost, easiest-to-use, high capacity storage. Thus, customers can use the same scale out building blocks to cover any application requirement with better price-performance than the alternatives.

| BENEFIT | Description |
|---|---|
|
Performance |
Coraid EtherDrive storage utilizes massively parallel 10 GbE Ethernet to deliver higher performance than Fibre Channel at up to 1800 MB/s of throughput. |
|
Simplicity |
Coraid EtherDrive SAN solutions combines the simplicity and economics of DAS with the scalability and data protection of shared storage, helping reduce costs and eliminate operational complexity. |
|
Scalability |
Coraid EtherDrive storage can easily be scaled to petabytes of storage by simply adding shelves behind the hosts. This allows researchers to cost-effectively expand their storage infrastructure with predictable performance as needs grow. |
|
Cost |
Coraid EtherDrive matches the performance of Fibre Channel storage at a fraction of the cost. With technical research driving up data demand exponentially, EtherDrive is an affordable storage alternative. |
|
Flexibility |
Researchers can deploy a single pool of scale-out block storage that meets the diverse storage needs of all their applications and easily allocate and re-allocate storage capacity as needed. |
